Nancy Menton-Lyons

A dedicated and knowledgeable genealogist, Nancy Menton Lyons has enthusiastically supported efforts to enlarge the Wilmington databases of this web site. Not only has she transcribed many records herself but she also has recruited others to do so.  In additional, she has spent countless hours photocopying microfilm records of the baptismal and marriage records for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Wilmington and distributing them on her own time and at her own expense to our volunteers as well as to our site’s webmaster. 

The continuing expansion of our web site since its inception would never have been possible without her generous support and exceptional dedication. 

Nancy is a native Wilmingtonian. She has been actively researching since 1991. Her Irish ancestral names are:

  1. Menton/Mathews immigrated 1849 /50, from Cullihill, County Leix (Queens), Ireland to Wilmington, Delaware. Some branches of the family went to New York City.

  2. Carlin(Carolan)/Cassidy immigrated 1858, from Nobber, County Meath, Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania then Delaware City, Delaware then New Castle, Delaware.

  3. O'Neill-immigrated before 1866 from Ireland

  4. McKibben( McKibbin) emigrated about1835 from County Down, Ireland to Philadelphia Pennsylvania, then Dover Delaware then Hockessin Delaware then Wilmington, Delaware.

  5. Duffy/Devanney (Deviney) immigrated from Crocketstown, County Mayo, Ireland ( at the time they were there it was in Sligo), to South Shields, County Durham, England then to Delaware City, Delaware then New Castle, Delaware.

  6. McDonald 1861 from Ireland to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania 1861, then Greenbackville Virginia.

  7. O’Devlin 1750, Ireland to Chester County, Pennsylvania

Nancy is a member of the Irish Culture Club of Delaware, New Castle County Irish Society, Irish Genealogical Society International, Irish Family History Forum, Delaware Genealogical Society, Friends of the Delaware Archives, and is a volunteer at the Wilmington Delaware Family History Center.
