Claire Ettienne Eugenie de Sassenay
On the tenth day of November 1799, we, the Vice-Prefect Apostolic, Superior General of the missions in the north of the island St. Domingue, refugee to the United States of America, placed in charge of the displacees of the Catholic Church of Wilmington (state of Delaware) by my Lord John Carroll, Bishop of Baltimore, have baptized Claire Ettienne Eugenie, born on the tenth day of August, legitimate daughter of Monsieur Claude Henry Etienne Bernard Du Sassenay of Dijon and of Demoiselle Fortunée Prudence Julienne Claudine Bretton Deschapelles, his wife.
She had for godfather Gaspard Etienne Bernard de Sassenay, her uncle represented by Monsieur Etienne Darnaud and for godmother Louise Jacqueline Claudine Bretton Deschapelles¹, wife of Monsieur DuSaqui Son Conte, represented by Victoire Mathurine Agathe D’arnaud, wife of Alexandre Bauduy. The four representatives have signed with us as well as the father and mother.

² Some published works consistently render the name as Vanjoueux, but unless the letters "u" and "n" appear differentiated as written, we have rendered it Vaujoyeux.
