Wilmington's Industrial Complex along the Christiana River Banks

Many Irish immigrants to Wilmington found employment as riveters, ship joiners, boilermakers, and painters in Harland & Hollingsworth Co. factories. The company manufactured iron merchant ships, street cars, and railroad cars. Other Irish labored in the Pusey, Scott & Co. Morocco leather tanning mills. Still others built finely crafted carriages which found a ready market in the southern United States prior to the War Between the States.

Researchers are very much encouraged to verify data by checking original sources or microfilm copies. Please send comments or errors detected to Joseph M. Lalley, Jr.
